On 11 January 2012, Federal Justice Minister Leutheusser-Schnarrenberger appointed Criminal Law Professor Christoph Safferling along with contemporary historian Professor Manfred Görtemaker as members of the Independent Academic Commission at the Federal Ministry of Justice for the Critical Study of the National Socialist Past.
The subject matter of the study is how the FMJ addressed its national socialist past in the 1950s and 1960s; this was the "Rosenburg" era - the first official seat of the Ministry -which also lent the project its nickname.
The present Federal Minister of Justice and Consumer Protection, Heiko Maas, welcomed the establishment of the Commission upon his appointment to office on 18 December 2013 and is continuing the project with the same intensity.
On the following pages, you will learn more about the people behind the project as well as the research study, and have access to information and materials on past and future events sponsored by the Commission.
